I recommend you remove Rapport. It is likely conflicting with your antivirus software. Bet you will find the problem is solved after you remove it! I have seen this on a number of client computers and it always causes these problems.
If you have a quality antivirus program installed on your computer and you use Windows Update when prompted, you do not need Rapport. Canadian tech - ouch! I emailed them on the 25th May and will give them a little more time to reply but I'm tending towards taking your advice.
I'll be back. In the meantime, though, why doesn't Windows Task Manager recognise show Rapport as a 'process' nor include it in the list of Applications Running? In Task Manager, click on the Processes tab. Click on the Show processes from all users button at the bottom. You may be surprised at how big the list is.
It will be dynamic, so watch it. The actual Rapport process may not have a recognizable name. You can also change to the Performance tab and then click on Resource monitor. There you will see a lot more detail about what is actually going on in your computer.

Clicking on Download Process Monitor brought up the options of opening or saving the zip file - opening brought up Application Not Found.

It seems that file was not download properly. I would suggest you to boot your computer in clean boot state to check if any third party application is causing the issue, as clean boot helps in eliminating software conflicts and then retry to download the Process Monitor.

Possibly, there is a link between these two items and CPU usage reflected in the first item I listed I can't say.
Your java install is outdated and I would uninstall all outdated versions and promptly update Having outdated versions increases system vulnerability to malware. Like I said in the original post, I know it's the "System" process that's giving me all the trouble. After some searching around, it looks like that's a driver issue for most people. Is there a way I can see exactly what in "System" is causing an issue?
The caddies have the possiblity to connect the SATA diagnostic pins to ground, see the small swich they have closer to the sata plug. Changing this configuration diagnostic pin floating i solved the issue!!
